Low-cost Brushless DC Servo motors.

Mclennan Servo Supplies have introduced a low-cost range of Brushless DC Servo motors. The BLS23 and BLS34 series are NEMA size 23 and 34 motors featuring high-energy magnetic materials to derive high performance, yet are available at extremely competitive pricing since they are based on high-volume production stepper motor construction.

All of the motors have three phase construction, with conventional Hall-effect sensors for basic commutation. Additionally a 2000 step/rev encoder has been incorporated to provide a positioning system with high-resolution feedback. The encoder is housed in a robust enclosure, making the units suitable for demanding industrial applications.

Mclennan's existing range of spur and planetary gearheads may also be specified to provide optimum torque/speed characteristics for a given application.

Omegear Precision Planetary gearheads.

Mclennan Servo Supplies Ltd have introduced a new range of Omegear Precision Planetary gearheads. The range offers a comprehensive range of size, torque capacity & precision options to enable customers to select an optimum solution to meet their performance and price objectives.

The HPE series are ideal for cost sensitive applications and offers price savings of up to 30%. The units offer a choice of industry standard frame sizes from 50 to 120mm diameter, torque ratings up to 210Nm, gear ratios up to 100:1 and typical backlash ratings of 12 arc minutes.

HP Precision units provide increased precision with backlash down to 3 arc minutes, torque ratings up 1200Nm & a choice of frame sizes from 60 – 180mm diameter. Despite their outstanding performance these units offer excellent value and are ideal for servo applications that require high dynamic performance.

P series Precision units offer similar operational benefits but utilise precision helical gear technology and a special input bearing design that together reduce operating noise, friction losses and heat when high speed operation is required.

PH series units provide optimum positioning accuracy with backlash down to 1 arc minute, outstanding dynamic performance combined with a radial load capacity that, in many cases, eliminates the need for additional support bearings in the driven mechanism.

All the gearheads in the Omegear range utilise an extremely simple Easyfit motor mounting system that allows the motor to be fitted to the gearhead in any attitude, are fully sealed and will provide an operating life of typically 20,000 hours at full rating.

Full details for these gearboxes are available from the product section of this web site, under planetary gearheads.

New product features in BLDC58 motors.

Mclennan Servo Supplies Ltd has expanded its range of BLDC58 series Brushless DC motors with integrated electronics and incorporated a range of new product features.

After launching versions with increased torque, higher speed and reduced length, the next requirement from the market was a version with active braking. We are pleased to announce this additional function is now available. Features include starting and stopping within 0.5 seconds, short reversal time and improved speed loop, with excellent stability of rotational speed under changing load conditions.

The lowest stable motor running speed is 70RPM. Torque's up to 25Nm are possible when combined with spur or planetary gearheads. Integrated commutation electronics with speed control loop are contained in a completely closed envelope. Nominal voltage is 24V; nominal speed is 3100RPM and maximum motor torque is 170mNm. A second version features an improved dynamic range with PWM input and improved speed stability for peristaltic pump applications. Combined with a low noise gearhead with a ratio of 27:1, this unit gives a shaft speed of 2.5 to 115RPM.

This new version will be available in the second half of 2002.

New controller provides 8 axis of motion

PM608 - Our new motor controller for up to 8 axis of motion.

New product - PM608 - 8 axis controller.

Mclennan Servo Supplies Ltd. have introduced a new digital motion controller that will control up to 8 stepper motor or digitally controlled servo motor driven axes.

Priced at less than £600, Mclennan's new PM608 controller provides a very economic solution with costs as little as £75 per motor channel and is ideal for a wide range of industrial and scientific applications that require accurate sequential manipulation of the driven mechanism. The Eurocard construction is ideal for use by system integrators, a matching motherboard that simplifies connections also being provided.

Communication with the PM608 is by means of an RS232 or RS485 link. With up to 99 controllers being connected to a single port, the number of motor channels that can be controlled exceed 700 using a PM608 based system. The new controller utilises the basic Mclennan 600 series command structure and may be integrated in systems that require simultaneous as well as sequential motion when operated alongside Mclennan's powerful PM600 axis controller.

On set-up, the number of motor channels to be controlled is programmed into the PM608's memory which retains all the parameters relating to each channel. The selected motor channel and status information is provided on the front panel display and motion sequences may be programmed into the PM608 for stand-alone operation. 16 optically isolated Digital I/O ports are provided to enable full integration with other process control functions.
