Rotary Joints

Slip rings consist of two parts: an outer section called the stator, this consists of brushes made of precious material (gilded or silver plated copper) and an internal part called the rotor, also consisting of rings made with precious materials. Operation is reversible, i.e. the external part, which is normally fixed, can be made to rotate and, as a result, the internal part (which normally rotates) can be kept fixed. Slip rings and rotary joints allow for 360 degrees of motion for cables assembles. This reduces wear, strain and ultimately improves the reliability of a system!
